Navigating regulations respecting the reduction in the release of methane from the waste sector. Lobbying for energy recovery from the combustion of municipal solid waste (MSW) with carbon capture and storage (CCS) to be considered a circular economy solution to waste and a solution to reducing waste sector related methane emissions. Requesting consideration and inclusion of landfill diversion incentives within Environment and Climate Change Canada's Landfill Methane Regulations. Navigating financial support mechanisms such as Canadian Infrastructure Bank (CIB), Canada Growth Fund (CGF), and Innovation, Science, and Economic Development (ISED). Seeking support through funding programs like the Strategic Response Fund (SRF). Seeking line of sight to potential grant funding mechanisms that can, if necessary, support the capital stack of Varme's Heartland Project to unlock private capital investment into the project. Encouraging the Government of Canada to enable Internationally Transferred Mitigation Outcomes (ITMO) as a legal tool under the Paris Agreement for domestic carbon project developers to access global markets. Advocating for the inclusion of geologically stored Carbon Dioxide Removals (CDR) to be included within the Clean Fuel Regulation credit market. Lobbying for the Carbon Capture Utilization and Sequestration (CCUS) Investment Tax Credit (ITC) program to consider delivery of power via grid connection through direct supply agreements to a CCUS eligible offtaker as eligibly considered 'dual use'. Advocating for the inclusion of Bioenergy with Carbon Capture and Storage (BECCS) at the 60% rate under the Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS) investment tax credit (ITC). Advocacy for inclusion of Enhanced Oil Recovery in Federal Government programs including but not limited to; Investment Tax Credits, to support the overall economic viability of CCUS projects and investments. General advocacy for waste to energy as a sustainable and economically maximizing waste management solution. Lobbying for a stronger policy framework around landfill methane reduction that focuses on waste diversion and incentives waste to energy solutions.
