Loi sur le Pilotage L'industrie cherche a modifier la loi afin que le comité national de pilotage permanent revoit le processus de tarification et assure une vigie des coûts et des dépenses pour des services plus efficaces et transparents. Les Armateurs du Saint-Laurent (ASL) demandent au gouvernement fédéral de renouveler et d’accroître son appui à l’industrie du transport maritime de courte distance (TMCD). Pour ce faire, l’ASL sollicite l’engagement du gouvernement fédéral à : Soutenir et cofinancer la mise à jour de l’étude sur le TMCD, afin d’identifier les obstacles actuels, les occasions à saisir et les recommandations concrètes à mettre en œuvre ; Investir dans les infrastructures maritimes et les cadres politiques qui renforcent la résilience et la compétitivité du secteur du transport maritime de courte distance ; Reconnaître le transport maritime de courte distance comme un mode de transport stratégique et durable, contribuant aux objectifs économiques, environnementaux et logistiques du Canada ; ASL porte une attention particulière aux politiques et règlementations qui affectent le commerce international, spécifiquement entre le Canada et les États-Unis. Afin de garder nos routes commerciales fluides, il devient crucial d'éviter les tarifs ou les règlementations qui agissent en tant que barrières commerciales non tarifaires. Des ajustements réglementaires et politiques permettant aux ports intérieurs et régionaux de traiter directement les conteneurs internationaux, éliminant ainsi les goulets d’étranglement actuels. Un investissement fédéral et un engagement opérationnel pour soutenir cette expansion de l’ASFC — une initiative qui s’autofinancerait rapidement et renforcerait la résilience du commerce national.
