Engaging with the federal government on policies and funding opportunities pertaining to project approval and advancement for the Crawford Nickel-Cobalt Sulphide discovery and downstream elements, including northern Ontario economic development policy, the competitiveness of the mining sector, mine development, downstream processing, permitting, and environmental policy.

Discussions surrounding the development of additional crude oil pipeline egress on B.C.'s West Coast Pan-Canadian energy strategy – discussions regarding the development of a national energy strategy, Canada’s role in the North American and global energy markets, US-Canada energy and trade relations and other trade related issues, including tariffs Discussions regarding the implementation of grants and investment tax credits for energy transition projects, such as carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS). Discussions and updates related to Pembina’s export projects in BC West Coast, such as the Prince Rupert propane export terminal, Vancouver wharves, and Cedar liquified natural gas (LNG) export terminal. Clean Fuel Regulations – discussions and input related to the implementation of the Clean Fuel Regulations and compliance pathways. Discussions around enabling policy and incentives for data centres and accompanying power generation Regulatory efficiency – discussions regarding the government’s approach towards streamlining regulatory process as they related to large energy infrastructure projects and pipelines. Market access and competitiveness - discussion regarding the government’s approach to opening new markets for Canadian oil and gas resources and related products to ensure full market value for Canadian hydrocarbons and other projects as yet in the proposal stage. Discussions related to the implementation of federal environmental assessment and environmental protection legislation. Discussions regarding the competitiveness of Canada’s energy sector, particularly related to pipelines and midstream energy issues, including environmental protection and safety, Indigenous engagement, federal procurement decisions, and sector investment. Climate change policies with respect to considerations for greenhouse gas reduction targets, cap and trade and carbon pricing provisions.

Navigating regulations respecting the reduction in the release of methane from the waste sector. Lobbying for energy recovery from the combustion of municipal solid waste (MSW) with carbon capture and storage (CCS) to be considered a circular economy solution to waste and a solution to reducing waste sector related methane emissions. Requesting consideration and inclusion of landfill diversion incentives within Environment and Climate Change Canada's Landfill Methane Regulations. Navigating financial support mechanisms such as Canadian Infrastructure Bank (CIB), Canada Growth Fund (CGF), and Innovation, Science, and Economic Development (ISED). Seeking support through funding programs like the Strategic Response Fund (SRF). Seeking line of sight to potential grant funding mechanisms that can, if necessary, support the capital stack of Varme's Heartland Project to unlock private capital investment into the project. Encouraging the Government of Canada to enable Internationally Transferred Mitigation Outcomes (ITMO) as a legal tool under the Paris Agreement for domestic carbon project developers to access global markets. Advocating for the inclusion of geologically stored Carbon Dioxide Removals (CDR) to be included within the Clean Fuel Regulation credit market. Lobbying for the Carbon Capture Utilization and Sequestration (CCUS) Investment Tax Credit (ITC) program to consider delivery of power via grid connection through direct supply agreements to a CCUS eligible offtaker as eligibly considered 'dual use'. Advocating for the inclusion of Bioenergy with Carbon Capture and Storage (BECCS) at the 60% rate under the Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS) investment tax credit (ITC). Advocacy for inclusion of Enhanced Oil Recovery in Federal Government programs including but not limited to; Investment Tax Credits, to support the overall economic viability of CCUS projects and investments. General advocacy for waste to energy as a sustainable and economically maximizing waste management solution. Lobbying for a stronger policy framework around landfill methane reduction that focuses on waste diversion and incentives waste to energy solutions.

Introductions, discussion on funding renewal application and overview for the Clean Resource Innovation Network

Communications about the federal investment tax credits under the Income Tax Act for carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) projects and initiatives (CCUS ITC). Communicate with government officials about funding for Carbon Dioxide Removal technologies (CDR) and in particular Direct Air Capture (DAC) technology through existing and emerging funding programs and mechanisms, including through CCUS (carbon capture utilization and storage) programs and initiatives. Advocate for competitive policies and programs that incentivize carbon dioxide removal (CDR) in general, and direct air capture (DAC) specifically in Canada.

Communications with federal officials concerning the regulatory framework, market access, and export mechanisms for Canadian-generated carbon credits in international markets. Communications with federal officials regarding policies and programs related to electricity supply, pricing, and infrastructure to support the operation and development of Direct Air Capture (DAC) facilities in Canada. Communicating with government officials about proposed federal investment tax credits under the Income Tax Act for carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) initiatives. Communicating with government officials about government funding for carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) initiatives. Communicating with government officials about emissions reductions initiatives, including carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) initiatives.

Seeking funding from Innovation Science and Economic Development, Strategic Innovation Fund, for the construction of a Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage Facility Advocating for a Carbon Capture Utilization Storage Investment Tax Credit

Seeking funding from the Strategic Innovation Fund (SIF) – Net Zero Accelerator, under the Innovation, Science, and Economic Development Canada (ISED), the Investment Tax Credit (ITC) from Finance Canada, the Canada Infrastructure Bank, and the Canada Growth Fund for Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage (CCUS). The lobbying activities have been and will all be focused on the development and construction of a Cement CCUS project which will reduce GHGs emission. Seeking funding opportunities related to the $33-billion Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program, specifically the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program and categories of Codes, Guides and Specifications for Climate-Resilient Public Infrastructure; Green Infrastructure Fund; Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program – Green Infrastructure Stream; Municipal Asset Management Program; and Municipalities for Climate Innovation Program. Lobbying activities will be focused on educating government officials in infrastructure and transportation on the opportunities and challenges with lower carbon concrete alternatives, and how codes, standards, specifications, and procurement policies can be designed to accelerate and incentivize uptake of low carbon concrete solutions for horizontal and vertical infrastructure.

Advocate for adjustments to the Clean Fuels Regulations to support the advancement of multiple methanol products with different carbon intensities for domestic and international markets. Support setting of default emissions factor for Carbon Capture Utilization and Sequestration (CCUS) and concept of negative carbon intensity (CI) with the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Net Zero Framework. Chemicals Management Plan risk assessment and proposed risk management of methanol. Input regarding Carbon capture, utilization and Storage (CCUS) incentives, including the CCUS Investment Tax Credit.
