We will be meeting with elected officials and Designated Public Office Holders about First Nations police services and the need for funding for a tribal police service. Blackbird will support the Confederacy in their advocacy around Bill C-5, the One Canadian Economy Act and the Major Projects Office, including the Pathways Alliance Project. Blackbird will support the Confederacy in ensuring Indigenous procurement targets are met at Canadian Forces Base Cold Lake and ensure the base and DND uphold their agreements with nearby First Nations. The Confederacy is aiming to build relationships with federal decision-makers to advance priorities on First Nations housing, health, and education, and discuss specific programs and opportunities. Confederacy of Treaty Six is examining pathways to secure increased funding for First Nations policing. Blackbird will correspond with federal officials to coordinate attendance for an upcoming Confederacy of Treaty Six policing symposium in November 2025, as well as in-person meetings in Ottawa.
