Support for new research and campus infrastructure. Increased funding and program design for various programs administered by Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), and Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR). Funding or support with respect to international development cooperation (student and academic mobility, internships, research collaboration, exchanges, technical assistance). Discussions regarding possible research and development initiatives for, and investments in, partnerships with the University of Calgary. Discussions concerning potential research and development initiatives and investments related to clean energy, environmental research and climate change policy. Discussions about policy implementation regarding the academic visa process in support of international faculty recruitment with respect to changes to the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations. Budget bills in support of federal funding for post-secondary education, research, innovation, science and technology.

Facilitate ongoing conversations with government decision-makers to discuss changes to the Income Tax Act, and the Income Tax Regulations. Engage with federal policymakers on innovation and technology policy, including privacy regulation and the potential introduction of artificial intelligence legislation. Engage in discussions with government decision-makers regarding pre-budget consultations as well as measures contained in Budget Implementation Acts. Engage government decision-makers regarding anti-money laundering and other financial-related crimes, including legislation such as the Proceeds of Crime (Money Laundering) and Terrorist Financing Act (PCMLTFA).

Federal housing policies, programs, and regulatory frameworks affecting the supply and affordability of housing in Canada, including initiatives that support increased residential construction, innovative building approaches, and the use of Canadian wood products in sustainable and efficient housing development. Federal policies and programs supporting youth employment, workforce participation, and career development opportunities connected to Canada’s forest sector. Federal infrastructure policies and programs affecting economic development and transportation systems relevant to Canada’s forest sector and the communities it supports. Federal rail safety regulations and transportation of dangerous goods frameworks affecting the safe and efficient movement of products and inputs relevant to forest sector operations. Federal budget measures, fiscal policy developments, and economic policy frameworks affecting the forest sector, including measures that support investment, growth, competitiveness, and long-term economic resilience. Federal regulatory frameworks affecting commercial transportation of forest products that support safe and efficient transportation. Federal workforce development and labour market policies affecting employment in Canada’s forest sector, including skills development, labour mobility, immigration pathways, and workforce supports. Canada Transportation Act and related transportation regulatory frameworks affecting freight service, system reliability, and cost competitiveness for forest sector shippers. Federal policies affecting transportation system costs and shipping competitiveness for Canadian forest products, including regulatory and service frameworks. Canadian Environmental Protection Act and the Chemicals Management Plan, including substance assessments conducted under the Pest Control Products Act, with respect to science-based regulatory approaches that protect environmental outcomes while supporting industrial competitiveness. Federal tax policy and investment incentive frameworks affecting capital investment, research and development, productivity, and long-term competitiveness in Canada’s forest sector. Federal innovation, clean technology, and industrial development programs that support modernization, advanced manufacturing, and the growth of next-generation forest products. Federal policies and programs supporting Indigenous partnerships, economic participation, and long-term opportunities connected to Canada’s forest sector. Migratory Birds Convention Act and Migratory Birds Regulations as they relate to land management activities and environmental stewardship practices within the forest sector. Pulp and Paper Effluent Regulations under the Fisheries Act, including Environmental Effects Monitoring requirements and regulatory approaches affecting pulp and paper operations, environmental performance, and sector competitiveness. Fisheries Act habitat protection provisions and associated regulatory tools affecting forestry operations and land management activities, with respect to effective environmental oversight and practical implementation. Species at Risk Act and related policies regarding species protection, recovery planning, and conservation measures affecting forest landscapes, environmental stewardship, and natural resource activity. Federal policies, programs, and legislative initiatives supporting the development of forest-based bioeconomy opportunities, including biomass energy, biofuels, and other innovative forest-derived products that contribute to economic and environmental objectives. Support for the National Adaptation Planning Global Network from Global Affairs Canada of $10 million over 4 years (2021-2025). Established in December 2014, the NAP Global Network works with developing countries to advance adaptation planning and action. This is done through: • South-South peer learning and exchange • Technical assistance on NAP development and implementation • Enhanced bilateral support to adaptation • Knowledge production and communications Support for the IISD Experimental Lakes Area from Environment and Climate Change Canada and the Department of Fisheries and Oceans of $12.5 million in 2021. These 58 lakes and their watersheds in northwestern Ontario are the only place where scientists can manipulate whole lakes to collect data from all levels of the ecosystem and understand how it all interacts. This support would go towards: • maintaining the most comprehensive open dataset on freshwater research in the world, making substantive contributions to science and public understanding of Canada's freshwater resources; • building a new public engagement center and replacing aging diesel infrastructure with solar power to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 330,000 kg/year; and • increasing Canada’s cutting-edge water science on climate change, plastics and pharmaceuticals. Potential policy changes to healthy foods and nutrition initiatives under Health Canada and the Public Health Agency of Canada. Initiatives related to sustainable seafood programs and practices under the Department of Fisheries and Oceans and the impact on Canadian fisheries and oceans. Initiatives related to environmental policies and programs under Environment and Climate Change Canada which may have an impact on the retail grocery industry. Initiatives impacting food safety and food labeling through Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada and/or the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. Discussions regarding international trade agreements and their impact on the retail, food and pharmacy sector. Discussion of drug policies, eHealth and primary health care policies.
