Encouraging the public to submit written correspondences such as letters to federal leaders and MPs urging them to implement a Youth Climate Corps (supporting motion M-105) and a Just Transition Transfer. Advocating for more ambitious climate emergency laws, policies and programs. Advocate for the creation of new programs and economic institutions to expedite greenhouse gas reductions, such as new climate-oriented crown corporations, a Youth Climate Corps and a new federal just transition transfer program. Advocate for regulations to expedite greenhouse gas reductions, such as a zero-emission vehicle mandate and zero-emission building mandate. Advocate for new communications programs to increase climate awareness and the need for ambitious action, such as a climate emergency funding stream for the Canada Council for the Arts, a new Climate Emergency Information Board, and the banning of fossil fuel advertising (Bill C-372). Advocate for increased federal spending on climate action and infrastructure. We are advocating for the federal government to boost its climate spending to 2% of GDP, including increased transfers to provinces/territories/municipalities/Indigenous nations for climate infrastructure (public transit, renewable energy, zero-emission housing), and to fund a Youth Climate Corps.

The application of regulations under the Canadian Net-Zero Emissions Accountability Act, Greenhouse Gas Pollution Pricing Act, Canadian Environmental Assessment Act, Fisheries Act, Species at Risk Act, National Energy Board Act, and Canadian Environmental Protection Act. Tax incentives for clean energy sectors. Phasing out tax preferences for fossil fuel sector. Future federal greenhouse gas regulations. Federal support for clean energy, electricity, energy efficiency, building retrofits, sustainable transportation, carbon sequestration and/or removal, and sustainable jobs.

Policies, legislation and regulations relating to the availability, production and protection of domestic biofuels in Canada. Consultations and discussions with government officials regarding procurement policies for liquid transportation fuels, including the increased use of biofuels by the Government of Canada and federal Crown corporations. Consultations and discussions with government officials regarding federal funding programs and initiatives to promote the availability of domestically produced biofuels in Canada and internationally. All matters related to the Clean Fuel Regulations (CFR) as they relate to biofuels and to ensuring a level playing field between imported and domestically produced biofuels.

Reforms to the regulations under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act which provide for the implementation of the federal government’s renewable fuels standard. Discussion with government officials with respect to procurement policies on liquid transportation fuels, and the increased use biofuels by the Government of Canada and Crown corporations. Consultation with government officials regarding regulations associated with biofuels and the energy sector; vehicle emission regulations for fuel economy effective 2017. Discussions with government about federal climate and environmental policies, legislation and regulations, such as but not limited to the Emission Cap, the Clean Fuel Regulations, the Output Based Pricing System, the ZEV mandate and the Multi-Sector Air Pollutants Regulations. Discussions on sanctions related to jurisdictions in which Suncor operates or in relation to the loading and unloading of purchased goods. Discussions with government on the Impact Assessment process and impact assessments for energy projects. Discussions of impacts and barriers to the competitiveness of Canadian oil and gas industry, including market access issues such as tanker bans, pipelines as well as new green washing provisions included in the Competition Act. Discussions with government on policy and fiscal supports, and regulatory challenges related to decarbonization, including projects like Pathways. Discussion with government on Canada's biofuel security including incentives and refinery competitiveness. Discussion with the government on any proposed tax changes, specifically relating to the Income Tax Act and associated regulations. Discussions will include all forms of investment tax credit including Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS) projects, hydrogen, as well as production tax credits for biofuels. Discussion with the federal government on First Nations and Indigenous consultation processes including provisions under the Indigenous Loan Guarantee program and the Environmental Justice Act. Discussions with government on issues and challenges to Suncor's operational continuity, including cybersecurity threats, work stoppages, and infrastructure challenges. Discussions with government on regulatory frameworks to enable successful closure & reclamation of oil sands mines, including regulations and practices that enable water release. Advocacy related to both export and import tariffs imposed on our industry both by the US and/ or the Canadian government as well as export bans, if applicable. Discussions with government on Fisheries Act in regard to the implementation of the Codes of Practice, related guidance's and enhanced coordination and alignment between the federal and provincial government. Advocate for timely, streamlined immigration approvals for workers supporting Suncor’s operations both in Canada and internationally.

Supporting the Canadian Federal Government in the design of EV-supportive programs including the Federal Clean Fuel Standard Discussions regarding government procurement requirements and specifications related to EV charging stations. Discussions aimed at encouraging technology transfer and increasing production capacity. Discussions aimed at developing current and further programs to support the installation of new EV charging infrastructure. Discussions about the importance for government to pursue free trade and lowering trade barriers with key markets.
