Communications regarding trade policy and ongoing Canada–Mercosur free trade agreement negotiations, more specifically with respect to access to Canadian market for refined sugar. Discussions may include potential tariff reductions and tariff rate quotas as well as their potential impacts on domestic sugar refining operations and capacity, competitiveness, and supply chain stability. Communications regarding the impacts of U.S. tariffs (and potential counter-tariffs) on the sugar and maple syrup industries, and proposing support measures in the event such tariffs and/or counter-tariffs are imposed. Steps taken to obtain financial assistance (grants, loans, tax holiday or other) from the Federal government, among other things through the Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (Industry Canada) and Transport Canada (TC), the nature and amounts of which are still unknown. The financing will be used to expand its Montréal cane sugar refinery and its Toronto distribution centre.

Discussion with government officials regarding public policy options relating to the application of information technology to improve efficiencies of energy systems. Discussion with government officials regarding policies or programs that relate to the Government of Canada’s “Cyber Security Strategy” , “Hydrogen”, “Aeroderivative Gas Turbines” and funding that may be available to Siemens Energy Canada Limited. Clean Hydrogen Investment Tax Credit Seeking supply chain connections through free trade agreements for potential Canadian content rules as it relates to this specific tax credit A government administered system of risk reductions for proponents in the renewable energy project space. For instance, a government fund that companies can apply to which eases commercial risks associated with start up hydrogen projects. In addition, contracts for difference (CFDs) in the context of projects in the energy industry and long-term carbon pricing.

Working with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada to improve visa processing times, the Study Direct Stream program, and lower refusal rates for international students accepted to Canadian universities Lobbying to maintain fair dealing for education. Lobbying for an explicit exception for charities, not-for-profits and/or educational institutions to Canada’s Anti-Spam Law (CASL). Increased supports for Indigenous students seeking to access post-secondary education. Harmonization of immigration policies with regard to the improvement of study and work permit processing to identify areas where policies and procedures could be strengthened. Engaging with reviews of existing legislation covering charities to clarify how they apply to educational institutions. Engage with Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada regarding the role of universities in supporting innovation through the full suite of innovation initiatives (eg. Engage with Department of Status of Women and Statistics Canada regarding data collection and policies/frameworks regarding student safety on campus. Discussions with Employment and Social Development Canada concerning international student mobility and internship programs. Discussions concerning federal budget priorities. Priority topics include: federal government's support for university research through the federal granting agencies and other government programs; support for graduate students and post-doctoral fellows; changes to the Canada Research Chairs program; university infrastructure; international research collaboration; knowledge mobilization; equity diversity and inclusion; cybersecurity; and expanding university education opportunities for Indigenous Canadians. Discuss effective strategies and programs to support student transition to the work place and access to upskilling and reskilling programs for mid-career Canadians with Employment and Social Development Canada, including the Student Work-Integrated Learning Program (SWILP) and the Canada Training Benefit.
