Innovation policies and clean technology funding initiatives that affect the upstream petroleum industry and providing feedback and recommendations to ensure efficiency, effectiveness, practicality and fairness. Engagements on emerging policies for Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS), hydrogen, electrification and other decarbonization technologies and their applications to the oil and gas sector. Ongoing discussions on greenhouse gas policy and potential impacts to current, planned, and potential oil and gas developments. General competitiveness conversations and Canadian energy strategy discussions related to national level alignment on energy priorities, including North American energy security and US/Canada relations (i.e. market access and global energy markets). Forthcoming budgets or economic updates related to taxation of the upstream oil and gas sector and implementation of new or proposed budget-related tax initiatives affecting the upstream oil and gas sector. Engagement related to the development and implementation of The United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act, as it relates to resource development, in support of fair and effective policy design. Engagement in support of the Pathways Alliance foundational Carbon Capture project, regulatory engagement, and engagement on initiatives and technologies to support oilsands pathways to net-zero greenhouse gasses. Discussions related to the implementation of the Canadian Net-Zero Emissions Accountability Act and its implications to the oil and gas sector. Discussions related to climate policies and programs, including provincial equivalency standards for the Output Based Pricing System. Discussions related to climate including the policy and regulatory framework with regards to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, including the federal output-based pricing system and the development of provincial equivalency standards and programs and the oil and gas emissions cap.

Engagement focused on advancing North American energy security and strengthening U.S.–Canada energy trade relations. Conversations regarding regulatory and fiscal reforms to enhance Canada’s energy competitiveness and support a Canadian energy strategy. Key priorities include simplifying regulations, accelerating project approval, enhancing market access, eliminating production caps, establishing globally competitive carbon pricing and fiscal frameworks, and enabling Indigenous investment opportunities to drive growth and economic resilience. Engagement in support of the Pathways Alliance foundational CCS project including regulatory engagement, tax credits, carbon contracts for difference, climate policy, and engagement on initiatives and technologies to support oilsands greenhouse gas reduction. Engage with the federal government to better understand the forthcoming changes announced in Budget 2025 regarding work to improve climate disclosure across the economy, that seeks alignment with international standards and harmonization across federal-provincial-territorial jurisdictions. Discussions related to amendments to the Competition Act introduced through Bill C-59 that impact the ability to talk about environmental programs, performance, and goals. Discussions related to the development and implementation of federal methane regulations regarding operational safety, economic competitiveness, consideration and integration with provincial approaches, and effective management of methane reductions. Discussions related to the elimination of the proposed oil and gas emissions cap, and the government’s strategy to align environmental performance with global trade and investment expectations. Discussions related to federal government’s Climate Competitiveness Strategy, including the federal output-based pricing system (industrial carbon pricing), the development of provincial equivalency standards and programs, and associated carbon markets. Discussions related to Canada’s sustainable investment guidelines to understand and inform measures to mobilize capital for the transition to net zero, including a sustainable investment taxonomy, a Sustainable Bond Framework, and working with provinces to improve climate disclosures and harmonize rules across jurisdictions. Discissions related to forthcoming budgets and/or economic updates related to taxation of the upstream oil and gas sector. Specifically, the implementation of budget-related tax incentives beyond 2030 as well as the extension of clean technology investment tax credits for electrification to include intra-provincial projects.

Migratory Birds Convention Act, in respect to the management of habitat, species at risk and migratory birds in relation to the generation and transmission of electricity; and stewardship policies and programs with an on-going efforts to streamline and clarify regulatory process, in relation to electricity industry plans to address the need for new infrastructure development to meet growing demand for electricity and replacing aging electricity assets, as well as enabling the maintenance and operations of existing infrastructure. Input to government's Biodiversity strategy by ensuring that the requirements are not unduly onerous to the electricity sector while maintaining the protection of species at risk Fisheries Act, in respect to the management of habitat, fisheries, species at risk in relation to the generation of electricity, and policies to streamline and clarify the regulatory process, in relation to electricity industry plans to address the need for new infrastructure development to meet growing demand for electricity and replacing aging electricity assets. To introduce Alectra's renewable energy projects to the federal government with the aim of identifying government grants, funding streams or any other relevant avenue in which Alectra's renewable projects may be considered for financial support. To advocate for changes to the definition of tax-exempt entities under the Federal Income Tax Act to allow for increased investment into the electricity sector.

This includes relief for technology investment, on-the-job training, excise duty, broad red tape reduction, using both grants (e.g. SIF) and taxation (e.g. capital gains, corporate tax, excise duty). Clean Electricity Regulations (CER) & equivalency – understanding the timing, objectives, and implementation of the CER to navigate a bilateral equivalency agreement. Includes advocacy for strengthened industrial pricing system to meet Canada's decarbonization goals. Net-zero emissions pathways to 2050 and the use nuclear energy and/or negative emissions technologies to meet Canada's climate goals. Maintaining and improving the large emitter trading systems (LETS) created by the Part 2 of the Greenhouse Gas Pollution Pricing Act (2018). Canada Growth Fund (CGF) - Understanding the timing, objectives, function and intended outcomes of the CGF using mechanisms such as carbon contracts (e.g. contracts for difference & offtake agreements). This includes advocacy around how carbon contracts are deployed, and the funding mechanisms used to support carbon contracts. Seeking changes to federal rules around tax treatment of companies (e.g. utilities) that change from not-taxable to taxable status (departure tax). The regulation of greenhouse gas emissions through the federal out-put based pricing system, including expanding fungibility and transparency. The development of a border carbon adjustment mechanism to respond concerns around carbon leakage and Canadian competitiveness. Policy around the design and implementation of a federal Carbon Contracts for Difference (CCfD) program. Pan-Canadian Framework on Clean Growth and Climate Change with respect to Canada's implementation of its international policy commitments.

Working to secure market access for Canadian canola products Supporting multi-lateral and bi-lateral trade negotiations and the implementation of existing agreements to reduce tariffs and non-tariff trade barriers on canola and its products. Implementing a national water monitoring program that supports the environmental safety of plan protection products. Expanding renewable content in diesel as part of Canada's Clean Fuel Standard and increasing the use of biofuels to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Ensuring that the regulation of crop protection products and seed innovations are made using the best available science. Encouraging the development of an Agriculture Policy Framework that supports the competitiveness and growth of the canola sector, including support for the federal and shared funded programs through the Agricultural Policy Framework. The Canadian Agricultural Partnership is the current policy framework for federal and provincial agricultural programs. Encouraging health/safety/environment approval framework for Plants with Novel Traits and plant breeding innovations that support innovation. Continue obtaining support to resolve market access issues and enhance canola utilization from Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada's "Agri-Marketing" Program. Continue obtaining support for federal and jointly funded research programs though the Agricultural Policy Framework such as the AgriScience Cluster. The Cluster is a partnership between Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada and the canola industry to produce research that reduces production risk, improves yield, increases market demand and enhances focus on sustainability.

Discussions regarding the safe and reliable operation of Enbridge’s liquids pipelines, natural gas pipelines, and utilities and power assets. Discussions regarding projects, expansions, optimizations, and changes to tolling arrangements relating to Enbridge’s liquids pipelines, natural gas pipelines, and utilities and power assets. Discussions regarding policy developments on Indigenous engagement, consultation and economic inclusion. Discussions regarding market access for energy products, maintaining the integrated North American energy market, Canada-U.S. trade and cross-border issues and Canadian energy exports to other jurisdictions. Discussions regarding climate policies and initiatives, including the federal carbon charge, the Clean Fuel Standard, methane regulations, and the output-based pricing system, as well as policy supports for innovations that reduce greenhouse gas emissions (including Renewable Natural Gas, Compressed Natural Gas, CCUS, hydrogen and power-to-gas). Discussions regarding Canadian competitiveness, including on regulatory efficiency, as it pertains to environmental assessments and climate policies and taxation. Discussions and feedback regarding regulatory efficiency, including environmental assessments, the federal carbon charge, the Clean Fuel Standard, methane regulations, Clean Electricity Regulations, and the output-based pricing system.
