Discussions with government about federal climate and environmental policies, legislation and regulations, such as but not limited to the Emission Cap, the Clean Fuel Regulations, the Output Based Pricing System, the ZEV mandate and the Multi-Sector Air Pollutants Regulations. Discussions on sanctions related to jurisdictions in which Suncor operates or in relation to the loading and unloading of purchased goods. Discussions with government on the Impact Assessment process and impact assessments for energy projects. Discussions of impacts and barriers to the competitiveness of Canadian oil and gas industry, including market access issues such as tanker bans, pipelines as well as new green washing provisions included in the Competition Act. Discussions with government on policy and fiscal supports, and regulatory challenges related to decarbonization, including projects like Pathways. Discussion with government on Canada's biofuel security including incentives and refinery competitiveness. Discussion with the government on any proposed tax changes, specifically relating to the Income Tax Act and associated regulations. Discussions will include all forms of investment tax credit including Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS) projects, hydrogen, as well as production tax credits for biofuels. Discussion with the federal government on First Nations and Indigenous consultation processes including provisions under the Indigenous Loan Guarantee program and the Environmental Justice Act. Discussions with government on issues and challenges to Suncor's operational continuity, including cybersecurity threats, work stoppages, and infrastructure challenges. Discussions with government on regulatory frameworks to enable successful closure & reclamation of oil sands mines, including regulations and practices that enable water release. Advocacy related to both export and import tariffs imposed on our industry both by the US and/ or the Canadian government as well as export bans, if applicable. Discussions with government on Fisheries Act in regard to the implementation of the Codes of Practice, related guidance's and enhanced coordination and alignment between the federal and provincial government. Advocate for timely, streamlined immigration approvals for workers supporting Suncor’s operations both in Canada and internationally.

To advocate for and funding support to advanced clean technologies related to the oil and gas sector.

Advocating to prevent the proposed weakening of robust environmental impact assessment processes, species at-risk legislation, meaningful fisheries and habitat protections, and other environmental regulations and policies as outlined in the "Getting Major Projects Built in Canada" discussion paper” Advocating to amend provisions related to changes to the Pest Control Product Act in the Spring Economic Update 2026 Implementation Act (Bill C-30) and the Budget 2025 Implementation Act, No. 2 (Bill C-31) to ensure adequate protection of the environment and health. Advocating for the effective implementation of the National Strategy Respecting Environmental Racism and Environmental Justice Act (Bill C-226), including through the development of the national strategy on environmental racism and environmental justice Advocating against the expansion of oil and gas production which increases greenhouse gas emissions including via opposing a new oil pipeline to the west coast; new subsidies to enable more production of oil and gas; as well as the weakening of climate and environmental laws and regulations such as the Oil Tanker Moratorium Act, Clean Electricity Regulations, and Methane regulations. Advocating to protect and maintain the greenwashing provisions contained in the Competition Act Advocating to maintain or increase funding of federal environmental and health programs related to issues including the Enhanced Nature Legacy Fund, Chemicals Management Plan or climate emissions reduction programs Advocating for the implementation and enforcement of the Coal Regulations under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act. Advocating to oppose proposed legislative amendments to change the Pest Control Product Act to remove cyclical pesticide re-evaluations as stated in the 2025 federal budget Advocating for amending Bill C-5, An Act to enact the Free Trade and Labour Mobility in Canada Act and the Building Canada Act Advocacy for the addition of per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) class to schedule 1 of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act and risk management measures. Advocating for the phase out of open net fish farm technologies. Advocating for the implementation of the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plans. Advocating for federal policies and laws to halt and reverse the biodiversity crisis and to meet Canada’s commitments under the Global Biodiversity Framework. Meetings and advocacy with respect to the federal protected areas strategy and policies and Indigenous Protected and Conserved Areas. Advocating for the assessment, listing, risk management and regulation of substances under the Canadian Enviromental Protection Act. Meetings and Advocacy related to government laws, policies and programs regarding critical minerals and mining. Obtaining recognition of constitutionally-protected environmental rights, including the codification of these rights through the proposed Canadian Environmental Bill of Rights; Advocating to strengthen the Canadian Environmental Protection Act (CEPA) regulations and policies Advocating for regulating plastics under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act. Advocating for the implementation of the changes made to the Canadian Environmental Protection Act with passage of Bill S-5. Seeking funding from the Strategic Innovation Fund (SIF) – Net Zero Accelerator, under the Innovation, Science, and Economic Development Canada (ISED), the Investment Tax Credit (ITC) from Finance Canada, the Canada Infrastructure Bank, and the Canada Growth Fund for Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage (CCUS). The lobbying activities have been and will all be focused on the development and construction of a Cement CCUS project which will reduce GHGs emission. Seeking funding opportunities related to the $33-billion Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program, specifically the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program and categories of Codes, Guides and Specifications for Climate-Resilient Public Infrastructure; Green Infrastructure Fund; Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program – Green Infrastructure Stream; Municipal Asset Management Program; and Municipalities for Climate Innovation Program. Lobbying activities will be focused on educating government officials in infrastructure and transportation on the opportunities and challenges with lower carbon concrete alternatives, and how codes, standards, specifications, and procurement policies can be designed to accelerate and incentivize uptake of low carbon concrete solutions for horizontal and vertical infrastructure.
