Engagement with the Government of Canada regarding the 12-month phase-out timeline of the wood preservative Pentachlorophenol (Penta), which will have significant ramifications regarding sufficient supply of utility poles, resulting in serious implications for the repair, maintenance and upgrade of transmission and distribution lines and ultimately, the delivery of electricity and telecommunication services across Canada. Engagement with the Government of Canada regarding the lack of an accessible and/or Health Canada approved alternative to the wood preservative Pentachlorophenol. Our industry has been preparing for the gradual phase-out of Penta as a wood preservative, and require a suitable replacement ( DCOI) be approved in the next 6 to 8 months to allow Canadian manufactures time to permit and engineer changes to ensure there is no supply disruption to a critical product supporting Canadian infrastructure.

Canada–United States trade relations, with respect to tariffs and the flow of natural gas through cross-border pipelines and impacts on utility supply chains Weight and Measurements Act's and regulations on sampling requirements for in service natural gas meters. The Canadian Gas Association provides information on and advocates a more broad discussion around cyber-security and support for the same. The Canadian Gas Association participates in broad policy discussion with respect to funding energy technology innovation. The Canadian Gas Association participates in broad policy discussion and ongoing government initiated consultations with respect to amendments to the Fisheries and Oceans Act, the Environment Assessment Act, and the National Energy Board. The Canadian Gas Association advocates for support to bring natural gas pipeline infrastructure to new communities, to support transportation fuel infrastructure, and to support energy technology innovation. The Canadian Gas Assocation provides information on and suggests a more broad discussion on how to price carbon in the context of broad energy and environment policy. On occasion CGA raises awareness and provides information to decision makers on energy policy and the general concept of the need to improve regulatory efficiency particularly as it relates to the Major Projects Management Office and ensuring that natural gas is not biased in policy. Federal Budget - The CGA is pursuing a recovery package for the Canadian economy and the inclusion of the natural gas delivery industry in that recovery programming. The CGA is seeking to create a number of renewable gas funding streams in Budget and expand support for energy efficiency. Advocating to ensure the development of energy policy in Canada is based on energy, economic and environment principles. Advocating for the mandatory location of underground infrastructure prior to digging. Advocating for the expansion of existing energy programs within Natural Resources Canada and Innovation, Science and Economic Development to include programs and policy that support energy efficiency and technology and innovation. Advocating for technology program support for natural gas vehicles and raising awareness of the merits of natural gas vehicles. Advocating for supportive tax and fiscal measures for the adoption of natural gas engine technology Advocating for policy support for the coalition called Quality Urban Energy Systems for Tomorrow (QUEST) regarding improving energy efficiency and technology at the community level. Advance a letter of cooperation between the Canadian Gas Association and Natural Resources Canada on energy efficiency, technology innovation, and energy information.

Advocate for strategic policies and investment in low-carbon economic opportunities including CCUS, bioenergy, forestry transition opportunities, hydrogen and clean fuel projects. Advocate for design features related to the Investment Tax Credits for Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage and clean tech to maximize outcomes related to emissions reduction and the federal government's climate policy goals. Discuss funding opportunities from clean energy and clean technologies funding programs such as: the Strategic Innovation Fund; Clean Fuels Fund; and Energy Innovation Fund. Discuss rules and regulations relating to: clean fuels; CCUS; forestry; biomass utilization; energy; climate; and the production, transportation and use of hydrogen and carbon dioxide.

Discussions with the government of Canada regarding possible sources of funding for continued mine operations. Provide input and participate in discussions regarding the implementation of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and its action plan. Discussions surrounding consultations regarding the Crown’s duty to consult and issues related to the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP).

Discussions with government about federal climate and environmental policies, legislation and regulations, such as but not limited to the Emission Cap, the Clean Fuel Regulations, the Output Based Pricing System, the ZEV mandate and the Multi-Sector Air Pollutants Regulations. Discussions on sanctions related to jurisdictions in which Suncor operates or in relation to the loading and unloading of purchased goods. Discussions with government on the Impact Assessment process and impact assessments for energy projects. Discussions of impacts and barriers to the competitiveness of Canadian oil and gas industry, including market access issues such as tanker bans, pipelines as well as new green washing provisions included in the Competition Act. Discussions with government on policy and fiscal supports, and regulatory challenges related to decarbonization, including projects like Pathways. Discussion with government on Canada's biofuel security including incentives and refinery competitiveness. Discussion with the government on any proposed tax changes, specifically relating to the Income Tax Act and associated regulations. Discussions will include all forms of investment tax credit including Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS) projects, hydrogen, as well as production tax credits for biofuels. Discussion with the federal government on First Nations and Indigenous consultation processes including provisions under the Indigenous Loan Guarantee program and the Environmental Justice Act. Discussions with government on issues and challenges to Suncor's operational continuity, including cybersecurity threats, work stoppages, and infrastructure challenges. Discussions with government on regulatory frameworks to enable successful closure & reclamation of oil sands mines, including regulations and practices that enable water release. Advocacy related to both export and import tariffs imposed on our industry both by the US and/ or the Canadian government as well as export bans, if applicable. Discussions with government on Fisheries Act in regard to the implementation of the Codes of Practice, related guidance's and enhanced coordination and alignment between the federal and provincial government. Advocate for timely, streamlined immigration approvals for workers supporting Suncor’s operations both in Canada and internationally.

Taxation and Finance: Reduce federal corporate income tax levels to compete with US federal taxes including faster deductions of capital investment. Natural Resources: We advocate for a more efficient, faster and more predictable approval process for new energy projects including LNG and pipelines to increase the value to Canada from energy exports and diversify markets. Impact Assessment agency Act is detrimental to Canada's energy project developers and detrimental to our membership.
