What they’re lobbying about

Engagement with federal officials regarding the transfer of responsibility for the Canadian Register of Historic Places to the National Trust. This would include a one-time endowment (grant) to the National Trust of Canada. Historic Places legislation - a Historic Places Act bill died on the order paper in the last parliament. We would like to see this legislation reintroduced with some changes. The purpose of the act is to protect historic places in federal jurisdiction.

Programs and policies primarily addressing built heritage. These include the National Cost-Sharing Program for Heritage Places (Parks Canada), the Canada Cultural Spaces Program (PCH), and the Celebration and Commemoration Program (PCH). We have asked for additional funding to be made available in these program or for changes in structure to privilege certain kinds of projects. We also sometimes apply to these program but so far have never lobbied related to those applications. Young Canada Works youth employment program. We are interested in this program because it creates jobs in the heritage sector by putting funds in the hands of heritage organizations to employ youth (good for sites, good for building a new generation of heritage workers). NT is a Delivery Organization. We regularly ask for the funding for this program to be maintained or expanded.
