What they’re lobbying about

Bill C-15 (Budget 2025 Implementation Act no. 1) with respect to the clause that would repeal the free literature for the blind in the proposed changes to the Canada Post Corporations Act. Accessible Format Production: CELA creates and distributes accessible formats of books for people with print disabilities in Canada. In FY24-25, CELA received its federal funding though the newly launched EARP (Equitable Access to Reading Program), which is a 3 year program through until March 2027. Before that, CELA received federal funding through the SDPP-D program (The Social Development Partnerships Program (Disability)). ESDC administers both the EARP and the SDPP-D; this will be the primary target of lobbying. CELA will be lobbying for stable and ongoing funding for this essential work to help people with print disabilities in Canada. Another possible source of funding is through Canadian Heritage, which supports accessible publishing in various forms as well.
