S2E would like to learn more about the Government of Canada's programs, priorities, and policies pertaining to artificial intelligence (AI) and data centers, and if there are any environmental and climate change considerations to these federal initiatives. S2E would like to share their clean technology expertise and industry insights to help inform and support the Government of Canada's policies, programs, and regulations related to sustainability and climate change. S2E would also be interested in pursuing contracting opportunities with the federal government in the fields of renewable energies, smart grids, clean energy infrastructure, and diesel replacement programs for remote communities. S2E is interested in learning more about, and potentially applying for, federal grants and programs related to renewable energies, smart grids, clean energy infrastructure, and diesel replacement programs for remote communities.

Seeking funding for local governments to implement climate change programming and initiatives in their communities that relates to adaptation, mitigation, climate staff positions, climate planning, pilot projects, and feasibility studies. Policy and program recommendations that relate to and impact local governments and their ability to mitigate, prepare for, and respond to the changing climate. This includes programming for GHG reductions and to implement local adaptation measures.

Seeking funding from the Strategic Innovation Fund (SIF) – Net Zero Accelerator, under the Innovation, Science, and Economic Development Canada (ISED), the Investment Tax Credit (ITC) from Finance Canada, the Canada Infrastructure Bank, and the Canada Growth Fund for Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage (CCUS). The lobbying activities have been and will all be focused on the development and construction of a Cement CCUS project which will reduce GHGs emission. Seeking funding opportunities related to the $33-billion Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program, specifically the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program and categories of Codes, Guides and Specifications for Climate-Resilient Public Infrastructure; Green Infrastructure Fund; Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program – Green Infrastructure Stream; Municipal Asset Management Program; and Municipalities for Climate Innovation Program. Lobbying activities will be focused on educating government officials in infrastructure and transportation on the opportunities and challenges with lower carbon concrete alternatives, and how codes, standards, specifications, and procurement policies can be designed to accelerate and incentivize uptake of low carbon concrete solutions for horizontal and vertical infrastructure.

Efforts to modernize federal privacy legislation and regulate artificial intelligence. An Act respecting cyber security, amending the Telecommunications Act and making consequential amendments to other Acts and its application to the insurance industry (C-8) Issues relating to emergency preparedness, response and recovery including a National Recovery Strategy, and the creation of a National Emergency Management Agency Expansion of the trade credit insurance market in Canada Proposed public-private partnership with the insurance industry to better protect Canadians in the event of a major earthquake. Issues relating to flooding including the creation of a low-cost high-risk National Flood Insurance program in partnership with the P&C insurance industry. Other issues include flood mapping and infrastructure investment. Developing a national approach and vehicle safety standards for the deployment of connected and automated vehicles Implementation of the National Adaptation Strategy and other issues relating to climate adaptation and including modernization of DFAA, DMAF, and infrastructure investments. Changes to the Minimum Capital Test (MCT) and solvency regulations. Changes to the reinsurance framework. Changes to other guidelines (i.e. Guidelines B10, B13, B15; Guidelines E13, E21, E23, etc.). Implementation of the national auto theft strategy and other solutions to combat the theft of vehicles in (and illegal export of vehicles from) Canada. National Coordination of provincial stolen and wrecked vehicle programs. (Transport Canada), with regard to allowing the exchange of information in order to prevent the fraudulent "re-VINing" of vehicles. This refers to the practice of changing the Vehicle Information Number (VIN) on a stolen or wrecked vehicle, thus facilitating its fraudulent re-sale. Financial sector policy and regulatory changes pursuant to the implementation of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), formerly North American Free Trade Agreement.

The application of regulations under the Canadian Net-Zero Emissions Accountability Act, Greenhouse Gas Pollution Pricing Act, Canadian Environmental Assessment Act, Fisheries Act, Species at Risk Act, National Energy Board Act, and Canadian Environmental Protection Act. Tax incentives for clean energy sectors. Phasing out tax preferences for fossil fuel sector. Future federal greenhouse gas regulations. Federal support for clean energy, electricity, energy efficiency, building retrofits, sustainable transportation, carbon sequestration and/or removal, and sustainable jobs.

Seeking contracts with the Federal Government to provide services in support of policies and programs related to flood risk solutions, Disaster Financial Assistance Arrangements (DFAA), and earthquake risk management. Seeking contracts with the Federal Government to provide services that would support policies and programs related to climate-resilient/adaptative/mitigative infrastructure planning.

Support for new research and campus infrastructure. Increased funding and program design for various programs administered by Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), and Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR). Funding or support with respect to international development cooperation (student and academic mobility, internships, research collaboration, exchanges, technical assistance). Discussions regarding possible research and development initiatives for, and investments in, partnerships with the University of Calgary. Discussions concerning potential research and development initiatives and investments related to clean energy, environmental research and climate change policy. Discussions about policy implementation regarding the academic visa process in support of international faculty recruitment with respect to changes to the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations. Budget bills in support of federal funding for post-secondary education, research, innovation, science and technology.
