Working with all orders of government, communities, services providers and philanthropy to create a policy, investment and service environment that enables a shift away from simply “managing” the problem of youth homelessness through emergency services to a more proactive, rights-based approach that focuses on prevention and helping those who are homeless move into housing with supports as rapidly as possible in a safe and planned way. Discussions with officials with regards to advancing youth homelessness prevention projects with the Government of Canada through funding programs such as Youth Employment and Skills Strategy (YESS) and Youth Mental Health Fund. Advocating to establish a fully funded youth homelessness prevention strategy and advocating for funding for programs, mechanisms, and projects for youth homelessness prevention.

Youth Homelessness Prevention: Alongside our research partner the Canadian Observatory on Homelessness at York University, we have built an evidence base that preventing youth from becoming homeless not only gets better outcomes for youth and families, but it is cheaper than waiting until they become homeless where costs to public systems, including emergency services, skyrocket. We are asking parts of the government of Canada to better coordinate and make a prevention strategy. We are also asking them to invest in evidence-based prevention interventions.

EUTHANASIA / ASSISTED SUICIDE: Seeking to influence government policy as it relates to prevent or restrict the legalization of euthanasia and/or assisted suicide, including, but not limited to, changes to the Criminal Code of Canada and the Canada Health Act. This is required in response to the decision of the Supreme Court of Canada in Carter v. A.G. Canada

The Home Depot Canada Foundation, in partnership with A Way Home Canada, aims to advance federal policy change and increased investment in evidence-based youth homelessness prevention.

Secure long-term funding from Health Canada for Pallium Canada's ECHO project. Given Pallium Canada’s commitment to ensuring accessibility to palliative care across Canada, its goal is to increase engagement with the government on this matter and provide support to address the challenges with health human resources. With a focus on achieving financial sustainability and advancing research in this field, it also seeks to make palliative care a key consideration as the government introduces new programs for seniors and people living with life-limiting conditions.
