Office is based in China. Red Meat industry has a series of regulatory and trade issues that the Canadian government is working to advance. The work our office is doing is to also lobby the federal government to ensure our issues remain a priority and that they understand the on the ground dynamics. On the beef side of the office it is to remain in market and on the pork side it is to see the 25% tariff that china imposed removed.

Communicating to Members of Parliament and Senate, federal departments and agencies a long term and comprehensive view of the role of research and post-secondary education as it relates to agriculture, food and nutrition, animals and health, in the growth of economic and societal wealth of Canada. Identification of critical infrastructure for food safety, security, sustainability and sovereignty, and public health related to nutrition, disease surveillance and prevention. Provide advice to federal departments and agencies regarding Agriculture, Food and Veterinary Medicine policies and priorities, and in particular Agricultural, Food and Veterinary Medicine policies and priorities related to skills development and capacity, funding and partnerships in scientific research and the technology transfer / extension to users of the research findings. Advice on regulations in related subjects. Communicating with public office holders in the areas of research funding priorities, funding cycles, processes and results; and skills and HQP (highly qualified personnel) needs for governments, industry and academia. Collaboration among Science and Technology and Policy Branches, and Agriculture, Food and Veterinary Medicine faculties of member universities, regarding the development and implementation of research clusters of federal and university organizations. Collaborating with Federal Government on strengthening Canadian universities arrangements with universities abroad

Engagement with Government of Canada representatives related to funding opportunities as per the Defence Industrial Strategy. Advocacy for industry?government?post secondary collaboration that strengthens Canada’s defence ecosystem while advancing workforce readiness in Alberta; positioning the institution as a training and applied research partner supporting defence related manufacturing, allied health, advanced skills, and technology development. Promoting policies, programs and regulatory initiatives that strengthen apprenticeship programs and pathways. Seeking funding for apprenticeship training and workforce development initiatives. Promoting policies and programs that support pathways for international students, including program of study and post graduate work permit eligibilities.
