The Home Depot Canada Foundation, in partnership with A Way Home Canada, aims to advance federal policy change and increased investment in evidence-based youth homelessness prevention.

Youth Homelessness Prevention: Alongside our research partner the Canadian Observatory on Homelessness at York University, we have built an evidence base that preventing youth from becoming homeless not only gets better outcomes for youth and families, but it is cheaper than waiting until they become homeless where costs to public systems, including emergency services, skyrocket. We are asking parts of the government of Canada to better coordinate and make a prevention strategy. We are also asking them to invest in evidence-based prevention interventions.

Engaging government stakeholders in discussions regarding wildfire risk in Alberta, including the development of a mitigation and response strategy and the use of artificial intelligence for monitoring in collaboration with affected or at-risk communities. Data center integration including grid-connected opportunities to reduce costs of the energy transition. Commenting on potential changes to Migratory Bird Regulations. Promoting measures that facilitate intertie development, including: clarifying the governance of interprovincial electricity transmission; implementing a one permit, one approval framework; encouraging provinces and territories to develop inter-regional transmission infrastructure; creating a national or regional energy strategy to identify potential trade corridors and projects of strategic importance of common interest; and providing financial support to interprovincial transmission projects. Communicating to: learn about Government of Canada initiatives related to climate change and GHG reduction; learn about electricity infrastructure and energy infrastructure; and discuss interties, energy storage and renewable energy generation, including how those tools can help Canada achieve net-zero clean electricity grid by 2050. AltaLink is engaging government stakeholders regarding participating in the Clean Electricity Regulations consultation process to comment on issues such as performance standards, phase-in, facility operations, and end of life for emitting units. As a transmission facility owner in Alberta, we are looking for CER design that helps to achieve a net-zero grid while maintaining reliability and affordability of the system.

The creation of legislation that will impose a duty to report on AI generators to report when certain user and AI behavior thresholds are crossed. The creation of legislation that will require AI generators to identify AI generative content with watermarks to easily identify human-generated content from synthetic content generated by AI. That the Government of Canada develop and fund a coordinated national youth digital literacy program focused on online harms That the Government of Canada provide permanent and ongoing funding to the Canada Centre for Community Engagement and the Prevention of Violence within Public Safety Canada. Concerns regarding alleged misuse of the CRA charitable complaints process targeting Jewish educational institutions and camps, and application of neutral and consistent enforcement of charitable compliance laws. Assessment of foreign nationals scheduled to speak in Canada and application of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act regarding admissibility and public safety. The Prime Minister must address the nation immediately, acknowledge the crisis of antisemitism, and outline concrete actions to ensure the safety of Jewish Canadians, defend Canadian values, and confront rising extremism threatening the country’s social fabric. Deploy national security resources to protect Jewish institutions. Treat attacks on Jewish institutions as acts of domestic terrorism. That the Government of Canada formally recognize the national crisis of antisemitism by establishing a national antisemitism emergency task force. That the new Advisory Council on Rights, Equality and Inclusion recognize that Jewish Canadians remain the most frequently targeted group for hate crimes in Canada and ensure this reality informs both its composition and priorities, that individuals tasked with addressing antisemitism reflect the broadly accepted understanding of antisemitism within the Jewish community in Canada, and that support for the IHRA Working Definition of Antisemitism serve as a foundational element guiding the Council’s work. Establish a Royal Commission on Antisemitism in Canada That Canada takes tangible steps to actuate on the commitments made with regards to social media and online harms in the 2025 G7 Interior and Security Ministers Communiqué. Recommendations for the Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights on Bill C-9, An Act to amend the Criminal Code (hate propaganda, hate crime and access to religious or cultural places): 1. The Committee should support Section 3 and Subsection 4(2), while maintaining the requirement for Attorney General consent for private prosecutions under the Hate Propaganda provisions; 2. The Committee should reject the proposed Subsection 319(2.2) as drafted, limit it to hate symbols, remove the term “Nazi Swastika,” use the term Hakenkreuz (Hooked Cross), include the Sieg Heil salute, and create a new subsection under Section 83.18 prohibiting the public display of symbols used by listed terrorist entities; 3. The Committee should require that any codified definition of “Hatred” conforms with the Supreme Court of Canada

Aligning Canada's financial system with the climate science. Recommendations: climate taxonomy, sustainable investment guidelines that exclude fossil fuels, climate-aligned transition plans, emissions targets, disclosure requirements regarding climate-related financial risk, tighter regulations surrounding who can be on boards of federally regulated entities, factoring climate risk into capital adequacy requirements, Sustainable Development Working Group. The three main asks are: debt cancellation for unjust and unsustainable debts; global financial reform to prevent future crises; and a debt resolution framework within the United Nations that is transparent, binding and fair. Bill S-238, the Climate-Aligned Finance Act. Bill S-238, which was developed through extensive consultation with national and international experts, provides a practical framework to mobilize finances toward projects that meaningfully reduce emissions; mitigate systemic climate risks threatening our economy; and promote transparency and accountability, helping investors make informed decisions. Citizens' Climate Lobby Canada is currently advocating for the bill to be passed by the Senate and sent to the House of Commons. Industrial carbon pricing in Canada. Industrial carbon pricing gives large industrial emitters an incentive to reduce emissions that cause climate change. Points of discussion: commitment to annual price increases, periodic review of provincial and territorial systems, oversupply of emission reduction credits, offset credits, transparency, expanded scope of the federal Benchmark, potential conflicts with the Alberta-Canada MOU.

Engage with the federal government, including through Build Canada Homes, CMHC and as part of the National Housing Strategy, to address the growing supportive housing needs of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities across Ontario and Canada. Advocate for innovative housing and financing models that support inclusive, mixed-use communities integrating affordable housing, support services, and community amenities, while advancing accessibility, inclusion, and long-term affordability within Canada's broader housing strategy. Expand the discussion about supports for people within the developmental services sector to include dual diagnoses and the intersection with mental health. Early Learning & Childcare Plan – increased supports for families with a child with special needs, inclusion in the financial commitment for accessible spaces. Canada Disability Benefit – consult with government officials to develop concrete actions to help reduce poverty & create opportunities for meaningful employment for people with intellectual disabilities. Advocate for the inclusion of the developmental services sector when making plans and decisions related to future emergency responses, especially as it relates to the COVID-19 pandemic. Advocate for increased and continued representation of disability sector supports in annual budget. Seek additional funding for Disability Benefits, Disability Tax Credit, Enabling Accessibility Fund. Advocate for federal expansion of the National Occupational Classification (NOC) Skill Level 0, A or B to include developmental service workers (NOC 4212), which are currently not under the Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) exemption codes. Accessible Canada Act – contribute to discussions surrounding the ACA’s objective of creating a barrier-free country by 2040.
