We have an interest in increasing resources for CFIA and CBSA to ensure compliance for imported products. Health - As per Canada's food guide, we encourage the public to consume milk to meet the daily dairy requirements of important vitamins and minerals. We seek for the inclusion of the latest scientific evidence about the nutritional value of dairy products within Canada's Healthy Eating Strategy on an on-going basis. Environment - We ask the government to support the continued introduction and adoption of clean energy and green technology on farms by providing existing and future sustainability programs with sufficient and ongoing funding. Consumer Issues - The perceived quality and safety of Canadian dairy products versus that of imported goods is of paramount concern to the dairy industry. To this end, we have an interest in ensuring the integrity of the Product of Canada and Made in Canada logos by maintaining the current Canadian thresholds and continuing to transparently identify imported content on dairy products. We ask that parliamentarians commit to protecting the current Standards of Identity for Dairy Products, which limit the use of dairy terminology and imagery to animal agriculture. In addition, we ask that these regulations continue to be enforced. BC Dairy is seeking to work with government to address the mounting challenges faced by dairy farmers due to soaring production costs. Rising expenses for feed, labour, and other inputs continue to impact dairy farm business sustainability. BC Dairy seeks to engage with government to ensure the sustainability of this vital sector's ability to feed communities. We ask that Canada’s suite of BRM programs be reviewed and updated with a view to modernizing these programs to increase accessibility and provide optimum support to farmers and producers.

Support the establishment of a seaside sanctuary for cold water cetaceans in a bay off the coast of Port Hilford, Nova Scotia and support the rescue and transfer of cetaceans retired from the entertainment industry to this or other seaside sanctuaries. World Animal Protection would like to see the Government of Canada acknowledge and act on the importance of animal welfare to addressing the biggest challenges of our time including pandemic risk, antimicrobial resistance, climate change and biodiversity loss. Pass significant restrictions on the commercial breeding, farming, keeping, display and trade in wild animals that carry significant risks to animal health and welfare, human health and safety and our environment; We also encourage the Federal Government to work towards implementing the recommendations in our Animal Protection Index (API) at: https://api.worldanimalprotection.org/country/canada. Require the protection of animals and their welfare in disaster/emergency preparedness, response and risk reduction plans and strategies Provide incentives to encourage farmers to transition to more humane and sustainable farming practices; Promote increased production and consumption of plant-based foods as recommended by Canada’s Food Guide to promote healthy diets and reduce carbon emissions; Phase-out the prophylactic use of antimicrobials in farming through better animal welfare practices.

Addressing the harms caused by both the legal and illegal wildlife trade, through the proposed Nature Accountability Act and the establishment of a Nature Intelligence System to track the wildlife trade at Canada's borders. Strengthening Bill S-15: An Act to amend the Criminal Code and the Wild Animal and Plant Protection and Regulation of International and Interprovincial Trade Act, to include large cats and stronger protections for wildlife in captivity Ensuring the principle of "One Health" is addressed in Bill C293, the Pandemic Prevention Bill, including the need to address the overlapping issues of climate change, biodiversity loss and animal welfare. Phase out prophylactic use of antibiotics in farming; Implementing recommendations of Canada's new Food Guide by supporting reduced meat consumption and increasing plant-based protein consumption; aligning institutional procurement (e.g., government-run cafeterias) to this objective; redirect financial support to incentivize farmers to transition to humane and sustainable practices and away from intensive agriculture farming practices; financially invest in the plant-based farming sector and business growth opportunities in the plant-based food sector.
