Advocacy to advance regional economic growth through strategic investment and programming delivered by Prairies Economic Development Canada, including support for innovation, workforce development, industry partnerships, and infrastructure. Advocacy to secure support in the budget for post-secondary education, research, innovation, and science and technology, including sustained funding and grant programs. Advocacy to enhance support for applied research, community-based research, and knowledge mobilization activities, including partnerships with small- and medium-sized enterprises and community organizations, including consideration of potential grants and other funding that strengthen these collaborations. Advocacy to enhance student supports, including but not limited to Canada Student Grants and Loans, the Canada Graduate Scholarship Program, supports for Indigenous students, and work-integrated learning programs, including broader funding and grant mechanisms that support student access and success. Advocacy to advance Canadian leadership in priority areas through applied research, teaching-focused institutions, talent development, and community-engaged knowledge mobilization, including consideration of potential grants and other funding aligned with these objectives. Advocacy related to university engagement in Canadian priorities in artificial intelligence, data systems and related computing science and energy subjects, including but not limited to specific calls for proposals, and associated funding and grant opportunities. Advocacy related to reconciliation efforts, including but not limited to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action, including consideration of potential grants and other funding that advance Indigenous priorities and partnerships. Advocacy related to equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives, including supports for 2SLGBTQ+ students and communities, gender-based violence prevention, and inclusive campus and community programming, including consideration of potential grants and other funding that enable inclusive participation and outcomes. Advocacy for university initiatives supporting Canadian defence and security priorities through talent development, leadership training, applied learning, and workforce readiness (including continuing education, public safety, and applied program pathways), including consideration of potential grants and other funding that may support these efforts. Research security, with respect to international research partnerships Discussions with Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada and other relevant departments and agencies regarding the role of universities in supporting federal innovation initiatives, policies and programs. Discussions about the Copyright Act and details of its implementation in a post-secondary setting. Advocacy to secure federal support to develop and upgrade university infrastructure, including teaching and learning spaces, student housing, digital infrastructure, and urban-serving campus environments. Advocacy to increase support for university research, including research funding and granting programs administered by the tri-agencies (SSHRC, NSERC, CIHR) and other departments and agencies. Advocacy to improve immigration policies and programs for prospective and current university students, faculty, and staff. Advocacy to ensure that proposals to develop or amend federal legislation, regulations, policies or programs that directly or indirectly impact the post-secondary system reflect the needs of undergraduate-focused and teaching-intensive universities, including student success, access, and community impact.
